What we collect when you book, why we need it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
This explains what IOT Homes does with your personal information. It is written to be read rather than to cover us, so if anything here is unclear, ask and we will explain it properly.
Who we are
IOT Homes provides plumbing, heating, electrical, gas, drainage, air conditioning and smart-home services across London. We are the data controller for the information described here.
9 Tryfan Close, Ilford, IG4 5JX
You can reach us on 020 7432 3868 or by email at info@iothomes.co.uk.
What we collect, and when
You can browse the whole site, answer the questions about your job and see your price without telling us anything about yourself. We ask for personal details only at the point you choose an appointment.
When you book
- Your name, email address and telephone number
- The address the work is being done at, including the postcode
- Your answers to the questions about the job
- Anything you write in the notes box
- Any photographs you choose to upload of the problem
- The service, price, date and arrival window you picked
When you pay
Your card details are entered in our payment provider's own secure fields and are never sent to, seen by or stored on our systems. We keep a reference for the payment, the amount, whether it succeeded and when — nothing else.
When you apply for a job with us
If you apply through our careers page we collect what you send us in the application, and use it only to consider you for that role.
Why we need it
- To carry out the work you booked. We cannot send an engineer to an address we do not have, or price a job we know nothing about. This is our contract with you.
- To keep you informed. Confirming the booking, reminding you before the appointment, and telling you when the engineer is on the way.
- To take and refund the £10 deposit.
- To meet legal obligations. Gas and electrical work carries certification and record-keeping requirements, and we have to keep accounting records.
- To understand how the site is used — only if you accept analytics cookies, and you are asked first.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. It goes to the following, and only as far as each one needs it:
- The engineer attending your job — your address, contact number and what you told us about the work
- Our payment provider, to take and refund the deposit
- Our email and text message providers, to send booking confirmations and reminders
- Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its database
- Anyone we are legally required to share it with, such as a gas or electrical safety body
How long we keep it
We keep booking and job records for as long as we need them for the work itself, for our guarantee, and to meet the accounting and safety-certification periods the law sets. Records no longer needed for any of those are deleted.
If you would like your information removed sooner, ask us — see below.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete it, where we are not required to keep it
- Restrict or object to how we use it
- Send it to you, or to someone else, in a portable form
Ask us using the details above and we will respond within one month. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
Cookies
The short version: essential ones only, unless you say otherwise. The full explanation is on our cookie policy.
