When a blockage keeps returning or the cause isn't obvious, a CCTV drain survey can help inspect the inside of the drainage system.

A camera on a flexible rod is fed along the pipe, sending back video as it goes. It shows the inside of something nobody can otherwise see without digging, which is the only reliable way to tell a drain that keeps blocking from a drain that is actually damaged.

The price you see is based on what you tell us. If our engineer finds that more work or materials are needed, they will explain the cost and get your agreement before carrying on — nothing is added without you agreeing to it first.

Do you need this?

You might need this if

  • The same drain blocking again after being cleared
  • A blockage nobody has been able to explain
  • Slow drainage across several fittings
  • Damp or sinking ground along the line of a drain
  • Buying a property and wanting the drains checked first
  • A drain smell with no obvious source

Qualified engineers across London, seven days a week.

What the work involves

Roughly what to expect. The exact steps vary with the job.

  1. Step 1:The drain is cleared first where it needs to be — a camera cannot see through a blockage
  2. Step 2:The camera is fed in from an access point and run along the pipe
  3. Step 3:The engineer watches the footage as it goes and explains what they are seeing
  4. Step 4:Anything found is located along the run, so a repair can be targeted
  5. Step 5:You are told what was found and what the options are

Questions

Common questions

What can a survey find?

Damage to the pipe, displaced or open joints, roots that have grown in, build-up on the pipe wall, and sections that have partly or completely collapsed. It can also simply show that a drain is sound, which is worth knowing before spending money on it.

Do I need one?

Not for a first blockage that clears and stays clear. It earns its keep when the same drain blocks repeatedly, when the cause is not obvious, or when you want the drains checked before buying a property.

Can you survey a blocked drain?

Not usefully. The camera cannot see past a blockage, so the drain is cleared first and surveyed afterwards. That order also means the camera sees the pipe wall rather than what was sitting against it.

What happens if the survey finds damage?

You are told what was found and where it is, and what can be done about it — which is usually a repair to that section, or relining. Nothing is carried out without being explained and agreed first.
