Where a survey finds a cracked, displaced or collapsed length of drain, repairing that section deals with the cause rather than the symptom.

What the repair involves depends on what has gone wrong and where it sits. A short damaged run under a garden can often be dug out and replaced. Something deeper, or under a driveway or an extension, may be better relined from the inside — which is a separate service, and not always possible.

An engineer will tell you which applies to your drain, and what each would cost, before anything is committed to.

The price you see is based on what you tell us. If our engineer finds that more work or materials are needed, they will explain the cost and get your agreement before carrying on — nothing is added without you agreeing to it first.

Do you need this?

You might need this if

  • A survey that has found a crack, an open joint or a collapse
  • A blockage that returns no matter how often it is cleared
  • Ground sinking or staying wet along the line of a drain
  • Roots repeatedly growing back into the same spot
  • A drain smell outside that does not clear
  • Drainage that got worse after nearby building work

What the work involves

Roughly what to expect. The exact steps vary with the job.

  1. Step 1:The fault is located along the run, usually by camera
  2. Step 2:You are shown what is wrong and told the options for putting it right
  3. Step 3:Excavation and replacement where the damaged section can be reached
  4. Step 4:Relining considered where digging would mean lifting a drive or a floor
  5. Step 5:The repaired run is tested before the job is signed off

Questions

Common questions

How do you know which section needs repairing?

From a camera survey. It locates the fault along the run, so the repair goes to the right place rather than to the most convenient place to dig.

Will you have to dig up my garden?

Sometimes, and it depends where the damage is. A shallow run under a lawn is straightforward. Under a driveway, a patio or an extension, relining from the inside may avoid the excavation altogether — where the pipe is suitable for it.

How long does a repair take?

It depends entirely on the fault and where it is, so we will not put a number on it here. Once the drain has been surveyed the engineer can tell you what your job involves.

Is it covered by my insurance?

It sometimes is — some home policies include underground drainage, and some do not. It is worth checking your policy before committing, and the survey footage is usually what an insurer asks to see.
