Drainage

Recurring Blockage Investigation

Drain keeps blocking? We look at why, not just clear it again.

We confirm the price with you before any work starts.

A camera survey showing the inside of a drain, to find what keeps causing a blockage
  • No call-out fee
  • Qualified professionals
  • 12-month workmanship guarantee
  • Emergency call-outs

Instead of repeatedly clearing the same problem, we can investigate why it keeps happening.

A drain that blocks once has had something put down it. A drain that blocks three times has something wrong with it. Clearing it again fixes the afternoon; finding the cause fixes the drain.

What that involves depends on what we find. Sometimes it is a camera survey. Sometimes it is jetting the run properly rather than pushing one blockage through. Sometimes it is a repair or a relining to a section that has failed. The investigation decides which — it does not commit you to any of them.

The price you see is based on what you tell us. If our engineer finds that more work or materials are needed, they will explain the cost and get your agreement before carrying on — nothing is added without you agreeing to it first.

Do you need this?

You might need this if

  • The same drain blocked more than once in a year
  • A blockage that returns within weeks of being cleared
  • Drainage that never runs quite freely between blockages
  • Several fittings that have gradually slowed down together
  • A drain that blocks after heavy rain
  • Mature trees or hedges near the line of the drain

What the work involves

Roughly what to expect. The exact steps vary with the job.

  1. Step 1:We go through the history — what blocks, how often, and what has been done before
  2. Step 2:The drain is cleared so the pipe can actually be seen
  3. Step 3:A camera survey shows the condition of the run and locates anything found
  4. Step 4:You are told what is causing it and what the options are, with the costs
  5. Step 5:Any repair, relining or further work is agreed before it happens

Questions

Common questions

Why does the same drain keep blocking?

Usually because something is holding waste up. Fat and grease narrowing the bore, roots through a cracked joint, an object lodged in the pipe, or a length that has sagged or broken so waste no longer runs away cleanly. Each needs a different fix, which is why finding out which one it is comes first.

Is this not just a camera survey?

A survey is usually part of it, but the point is the conclusion rather than the footage. We clear the drain, look at it properly, and tell you what is causing the pattern and what to do about it.

Will I have to have the work done?

No. The investigation tells you what is wrong. What you do about it is your decision, and we will be straight about what is urgent and what can wait.

What if it turns out not to be my drain?

Then we will tell you. If the problem sits beyond your boundary or on a shared sewer, that may be your water company's responsibility rather than yours, and you should not be paying us to deal with it.
